TMJ

Your Temporomandibular joint is often referred to as the TMJ joint. This joint is located at the base of your skull, connecting the lower jaw with the upper jaw. There are many people who suffer from Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction Syndrome. Most common symptoms associated with the syndrome are headaches, jaw pain, grinding of teeth, and ringing in the ears. Many people living with TMJ are not aware that by their dentist can help them solve these issues, helping them live pain free.

There are many different methods to treat TMJ. Because there are many factors that could lead to TMJ, your dentist will provide a thorough examination of your jaw area, take x-rays, and examine the patients bite. Once your dentist diagnoses what is causing the TMJ, they can work on treating it. Treatment may include a customized molded bite guard, realignment of the teeth, new restorations, and more, depending on the cause of the issue.

Another course of treatment for TMJ that we offer at Riverside Dental Clinic, is Botox.

Botox has been proven as a safe and effective way to help alleviate tension in your temporomandibular joint, which could lead to reduced feelings of headaches and jaw pain.

Botox offers a fast and long lasting relief for patients suffering from TMJ.

What are the benefits of Botox for TMJ sufferers?

  • Elimination of headaches caused from grinding of teeth
  • Minimized symptoms of lockjaw
  • Reduced shoulder and neck pain
  • Substantially reduced jaw tension

How does Botox help?

Botox injections will be done at your dental office. The injections will relax the jaw muscles and alleviate temporomandibular tension. In turn, this will stop unconscious jaw movement from taking place (grinding of teeth while sleeping) and you will be able to function normally.
