Dental implants are an excellent and common way to replace a missing tooth or teeth. Not only do they serve functionally, but also aesthetically. Dental Implants can be a permanent solution to having removable partial or complete dentures. Implants also supply strong support and stability to these appliances.
What is a Dental Implant?
A dental implant serves as a replacement of the root or roots of your teeth. The implants are secured into your jawbone and are not visible once they are placed. Once placed, they will be used to secure crowns, bridges, partial dentures, and complete dentures.
Because dental implants are surgically placed in your jawbone, they are durable and long lasting. For that reason, and the fact that they are not removable, they are becoming an extremely popular option for teeth replacement.
Reasons you may need dental implants:
- Replace one or more missing teeth
- Resolve bite problems
- Resolve joint pain
- Restore a patient’s smile
- Restore functionality (chewing, speech, digestion)
- Enhance facial tissues
- Support a bridge or denture securely
What does getting dental implants involve?
Dental Implants will be completed over a series of visits. X-rays and impressions of your jaw and teeth will be taken immediately to determine your bone, gum tissue, and spacing that is available for the implant.
The area will be numbed and the implant will be surgically secured into the bone. Over six months, the bone will heal and integrate itself into the bone. After a few weeks of healing, the artificial teeth will me made and fitted to the anchors. To offer a completely comfortable fitting, this step may require multiple visits to ensure that you are happy. The artificial teeth will be attached, and the process is complete.
Upon completion you will receive full care instructions.
