As most people know, dentures and partial dentures are replacements for missing teeth that can be removed easily and but back into your mouth. This appliance is made to closely resemble your natural teeth, giving you a complete smile.
What Are the Different Types of Dentures?
There are two main types of dentures, complete, and partial. Your dentist will help choose the correct option for you, but complete dentures are more commonly used for when all of the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when there are some teeth remaining. A partial denture will do more than just fill in a missing space where a tooth used to be, but also act as a block preventing other teeth from moving or shifting.
Dentures are very durable and will be long lasting if well taken care of. It is common that they will have to be adjusted or repaired over their lifetime through normal wear and tear.
Reasons you may need dentures:
- Loss of all teeth in an arch
- Loss of some teeth in an arch
- Enhancing smile and facial tissues
- Improving chewing, speech, and digestion
Dentures will be created over a number of appointments. Molds and measurements will be taken and used to create a comfortably fitting custom denture. You may have to visit for a few “try on” appointments to perfectly correct them to the proper shade, color, and fit.
Upon completion you will receive full care instructions.
